Decorative Papers Made Easy

Batik, marbling, tie-dying: there's an endless array of incredible and easy techniques to produce unusual, striking handmade papers. Better than anything found in a store, and lots of fun to do, these projects range from eye-catching and colorful abstract patterns to traditionally pretty florals. And, because they start with recycled materials, such as used computer paper and envelopes, they're also kind to the Earth! Turn plain cardboard shoeboxes into handsome storage containers with wallpaper paste and paint; they feature bright geometric designs and fresh apple-green, turquoise, and lavender coloring. Old napkins take new life as Christmas cards, gift paper, and tags. Texturize paper with fabric and thread designs to make a photograph album. Add zest to a room with spice-colored candle shades. Make pictures with vegetables and leaves, a food-colored paper to embellish a notebook, and a petal-and-leaf decoration for a stationery box, address book, and bookmark.
